June is National Indigenous History Month

At the ALCDSB we continue to respond to the Truth and Reconciliation Commission’s Calls to Action and are reminded by the First Nations, Métis & Inuit Education Association of Ontario (FNMIEAO) that “The month of June serves as a positive opportunity to highlight and share the positive contributions made every day by First Nations, Métis and Inuit Peoples.”

Ways to Take Action:

  • Create a space to center and highlight Indigenous resources, texts, authors, change makers, influencers in the front of your school entrances, learning commons, and gathering spaces.
  • Continue to focus on Indigenous Influencers in curriculum. June is a great month to center Indigeneity in your planning.
  • Be inspired by and engage with Indigenous social media, learn about Indigenous approaches to land stewardship, support Indigenous musicians, caterers, and artists.
  • Focus staff meetings on the celebration and sharing of Indigenous Education that is happening in your school now and throughout the year.
  • Attend local celebrations
